Short CV

Holger Steeb studied Civil Engineering at the University of Stuttgart (Germany), where he also obtained his PhD in numerical mechanics. After a PostDoc period in Stuttgart and Athens (Greece) and a 5-years senior researcher period at the Saarland University in Saarbrucken (Germany), he obtained the "venia legendi" in mechanics from the Saarland University. In 2008, Holger accepted an Assistant Professorship in Multi Scale Mechanics (MSM) at the University of Twente in Enschede (The Netherlands). Since 2009, he is a Full Professor of Mechanics (Chair of Continuum Mechanics) at the Ruhr-University Bochum (Germany).

Holger's research interests are located in the field of theoretical, numerical and experimental analysis of complex materials, e.g., fluid-saturated porous media, multi-phase and multi-scale materials as well as smart materials. Furthermore, he is interested in the development and analysis of space-time numerical homogenization techniques (e.g., multi-level finite-element methods, FE2), extended continuum theories (e.g., micropolar, micromorphic, phase field), and thermodynamics of mixtures.
